the central figure of the martyr shown in intricately decorated body armor, holding a spear in one hand and a Russian Orthodox Cross in the other, to his left are scenes from his life including prayer to God and martyrdom, to St. Dimitriy`s left is a white tower meant to recall the city of Thessaloniki which St. Dimitriy defended from attack, inside the tower are depicted images of veneration of the martyr. Egg tempera, gold leaf, and gesso on wood panel with kovcheg. Two insert splints on the back. 89.7 x 76 cm (35 3/8 x 30 in.)
