A RUSSIAN ICON OF CHRIST PANTOCRATOR IN A GILT SILVER AND ENAMEL OKLAD, IVAN MOROZOV, ST PETERSBURG, 1899-1904
In the original fitted wood box retailed by I. Morozov, the vestments chased and repousse, the oklad with borders of floral ornament and the halo in cloisonne enamel, the plaque and the pages of Testament decorated in blue champleve enamel. The oklad struck with I. Morozov retailer`s mark, Cyrillic maker`s mark of IP, St. Petersburg, 1899-1904, 88 standard; halo marked with Cyrillic initials SG (probably for Semen Galkin), Moscow, 1899-1908, Kokoshnik and 84 standard; the plaque and the testament struck with town marks. Egg tempera and gesso on wood panel. One insert splint on the bottom. Size of the icon: 22.2 x 17.8 cm (8 3/4 x 7 in.); size with the case: 31.2 x 26.7 cm (12 1/4 x 10 1/2 in.)
