PROVENANCE:
Given to the present owner, who served as a diplomat in the USSR, by Lydia Masterkova in the summer of 1975 for helping her get several of her paintings out of the Soviet Union.
LOT NOTES:
According to Masterkova, the title of the work, altough not indicated on the actual painting, represents the hand at which Dostoyevsky lost a lot of money gambling.
