[JFK] A SIGNED VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPH OF JACKIE AND JOHN F. KENNEDY AND HAILE SELASSIE, 1963
black-and-white print, signed by John F. Kennedy lower right, documenting the official visit of Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, to Washington, D.C., at Union Station, in 1963, shown together with Princess Ruth Desta, the First Lady of the U.S. Jacqueline Kennedy, and President John F. Kennedy; 16 x 11 cm (6 1/4 x 4 3/8 in.) [sight]
LOT NOTESForeign policy was an outstanding aspect of President John F. Kennedy's Cold War administration. In October of 1963, Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia went on a tour of the United States, meeting with JFK to discuss their nation's relationship and mutual concerns. This photo of the two world leaders was taken just six weeks before the assassination of the President on November 22, 1953 in Dallas. The Emperor and the President developed a close relationship, so much so that the Emperor was a special guest of honor at JFK's funeral and later stayed at the White House with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and children Caroline and John-John.
CONDITION The photograph appears in good original condition. No apparent issues visible to the naked eye.
