Irwin Toby Holtzman (1927-2010) was a prominent book collector. Together with his wife, Shirley, they shared a lifelong passion for books and libraries. His collections can be found in 15 libraries around the world, including the Library of Congress, the British Library, and the libraries of the Universities of Michigan and Illinois. He donated the greatest private collection of the works by Boris Pasternak, Joseph Brodsky, and Isaac Babel to the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Toby Holzman played a pivotal role in supporting Brodsky. They shared a deep friendship.
